France is holding lively celebrations for Bastille Day, a holiday commemorating the historic storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, a key moment that ignited the French Revolution.

In the heart of Paris, over 7,000 participants paraded down the iconic Champs-Elysees, showcasing not only military units and armoured vehicles but also a thrilling display of fighter jets and a captivating drone light show illuminated by the Eiffel Tower. This year’s festivities reflect the revolutionary spirit and military strength, culminating in a parade that featured President Emmanuel Macron reviewing the troops and igniting the eternal flame at the Arc de Triomphe.

In his speech during the celebrations, President Macron addressed the evolving global threats and announced plans for increased military funding, underscoring the importance of national security in today’s world. Notably, this year’s celebrations welcomed Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto as the guest of honour, with a vibrant contribution from 200 Indonesian drummers. Their participation is anticipated to lead to new agreements for the purchase of French military equipment, including Rafale jets, highlighting the event’s growing international connections.

Troops from Finland, Belgium, and Luxembourg also took part, further emphasizing the event’s global character. Special recognition was given to Fousseynou Samba Cisse, a hero who received a personal invitation from Macron after he bravely rescued two children from a burning building. Additionally, prestigious awards were bestowed this year, including the Legion of Honour to Gisele Pelicot, recognized for her advocacy against sexual violence.

Across the nation, Bastille Day festivities are bringing communities together, with family gatherings, firefighter balls, and traditional rural festivals marking this significant occasion. The spirit of unity and celebration continues to resonate throughout France, fostering a sense of pride and remembrance as the country commemorates its revolutionary heritage.
