BASIC Industries PTE Limited has unveiled a new Mobile Concrete Batching Plant following a substantial investment of $1.49 million, aimed at boosting efficiency and capacity in Fiji’s rapidly developing Western Division. Chairperson Semi Lotawa highlighted the importance of this investment, which addresses operational challenges posed by their outdated batching systems that have led to revenue losses and customer dissatisfaction.
During a visit to Nadi last December, Lotawa expressed concerns over reliability issues that were impacting the company’s competitiveness. “This investment directly supports our strategic priorities, which include achieving operational excellence and delivering superior customer satisfaction,” he remarked.
The introduction of the mobile batching plant marks a significant upgrade for BASIC Industries, increasing their production capacity and enhancing reliability. With a fully PLC-controlled system, the plant will enable the company to efficiently manage high-margin projects and deliver top-quality concrete batches, while also allowing them to relocate production closer to major infrastructure development sites.
Despite initial challenges related to shipping delays and the logistics of installation and training, Lotawa confirmed the plant’s capability to produce up to 60 cubic meters of concrete.
The launch of the new facility garnered support from local leaders. Ba Provincial Council Chairman Ratu Meli Tora praised the strategic timing of the project amid ongoing construction in the Nadi to Lautoka corridor. He commended Fijian Holdings Limited for their proactive leadership in ensuring that necessary infrastructure supports future development endeavors.
Ratu Meli also urged the company staff to take ownership of the new equipment, emphasizing the importance of operational stewardship as they prepare to meet upcoming demands.
This investment and launch of the plant resonate with a wider trend in Fiji where businesses are prioritizing modernization to meet growing market needs. Similar upgrades, such as those by FOOD Processors Fiji Ltd, reflect a commitment to enhancing local infrastructure and capacity, which is vital for stimulating economic growth and creating job opportunities. With these ongoing developments, there is a promising outlook for the future, as businesses adjust their strategies to support a flourishing economy and community.
