“Barstool Sports Founder’s High Seas Rescue Drama Unfolded Off Massachusetts Coast”

The founder and owner of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy, lost control of his boat off the coast of Massachusetts and was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Portnoy, 47, recounted in a TikTok video that the incident occurred on Monday near Nantucket after he unhooked his boat from buoys. Strong winds then caused the boat to drift out to sea, and its engine failed.

Another boater noticed Portnoy’s distress and alerted the Coast Guard, who then towed the boat back to safety. Portnoy expressed gratitude to the “four burly dudes” who came to his rescue and mentioned he might take a break from boating.

“Captain Dave lives to tell another tale. Third time as captain, already lost at sea. It’s a dangerous game, the sea’s angry my friends,” Portnoy said in the TikTok video.

Portnoy, who has a significant online following, also used X to thank the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard replied with a message for Portnoy’s pit bull, Miss Peaches.

“Any time, Dave,” the Coast Guard posted, along with smiling emojis. “Tell Miss Peaches we love her.”

Dave Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2003 in the Boston area. The sports and pop culture website has since amassed over 16 million followers on Instagram.
