Barcelona dominated Young Boys with a 5-0 victory in the Champions League on Tuesday night, marking their first win in the competition this season.
The match featured a brace from Robert Lewandowski, alongside goals from Raphinha and Inigo Martinez, putting Barcelona ahead 4-0 before the hour mark. A late own goal from a Young Boys defender sealed the scoreline at 5-0.
The opening goal showcased Barcelona’s remarkable teamwork and swift passing. Marc Casado made a crucial pass to Ferran Torres, who then found Lamine Yamal. Yamal’s flick set up Raphinha, who delivered a cross-shot that Lewandowski tapped in at the back post, giving Barcelona a 1-0 lead within the first eight minutes.
Raphinha was instrumental in the second goal, showing a rejuvenated form this season. After receiving a corner, he was well-placed to convert a loose ball into the net, making the score 2-0. This goal marked Raphinha’s sixth goal and fourth assist in just ten games, a significant improvement over his inconsistent performances last season.
Lewandowski continued to demonstrate his scoring prowess, adding two more goals to his tally. He has now scored ten goals in the Champions League for Barcelona, becoming only the second player, after Cristiano Ronaldo, to achieve this feat with three different clubs. His first goal came from a well-timed run to finish Raphinha’s cross, while he added another from a header just after halftime.
Inigo Martinez also shined, scoring his first goal for Barcelona with a header and assisting Lewandowski’s second goal. Martinez has been a consistent presence in the squad, having appeared in all but one match this season. His resilience and performance are being recognized under new manager Hansi Flick.
Looking ahead, Barcelona will face Alaves in La Liga on Sunday, October 6.
