Once again, three promising players from the Barça Academy Residency Arizona are training with the youth teams of FC Barcelona to assess their growth in skills and character. Selected by the US-based coaches, Graham Ford, Makai Wells, and Jorge Padilla are gaining invaluable experience, having all participated in last year’s competitive MLS playoffs, which continue to grow in prominence each year.
Graham Ford has joined the U16A team, showcasing his talents that he previously demonstrated during a training camp last year. As a left-footed central midfielder, Ford excels at maintaining possession, ball recovery, and game comprehension, proving to be a vital asset to his team.
Makai Wells is also training with the U16A squad on his inaugural visit to Barcelona. This right winger is skilled in passing and has demonstrated remarkable strength in one-on-one situations. Remarkably, he joined the Barça Academy Pro Arizona just last year, underscoring his rapid development and potential.
Meanwhile, Jorge Padilla is participating with the U19B team, marking his first experience at the Ciutat Esportiva after four years at the Arizona center. His impressive performance during the MLS U16 playoffs has earned him this opportunity to further his skills in Europe. A right-sided midfielder known for his strong tackles and direct style of play, Padilla’s dedication is a key factor behind this exciting chance to train alongside top talent.
Barça Residency Academy USA, launched in 2017, is the only FC Barcelona program in North America. Located in Casa Grande, Arizona, it features eight soccer fields and a study center affiliated with Arizona State University, with onsite FC Barcelona coaches ensuring the effective implementation of Barça’s renowned training methodology. Additionally, it proudly hosts a team in MLS Next, the premier youth league in the United States.
This initiative not only reflects Barça’s commitment to nurturing talent abroad but also emphasizes the growing strength of youth soccer in North America. The experiences of these young athletes could inspire many others, showcasing that hard work and passion can open doors to exceptional opportunities in the world of soccer.
