In line with its tradition, Barça Academy Residency Arizona has sent three talented players to train with the youth teams at FC Barcelona, aiming to evaluate their performance and attitude. The selected players this year, as noted by the coaches based in the United States, are Graham Ford, Makai Wells, and Jorge Padilla. Notably, all three participated in last year’s MLS playoffs, highlighting the growing competitiveness of the league.
Graham Ford, who has previously impressed during a training camp last year, is currently practicing with the U16A squad. As a left-footed central midfielder, he showcases exemplary skills in possession, ball recovery, and game awareness.
Makai Wells, also training with the U16A team, is experiencing his first trip to Barcelona. This right winger, who joined Barça Academy Pro Arizona merely a year ago, excels in passing and stands out in one-on-one situations.
Jorge Padilla, now with the U19B team, is embarking on his first journey to Europe after four years at the Arizona center. He made a significant impact during the MLS U16 playoffs, which contributed to his selection for this opportunity. As a right-sided midfielder, he is noted for his tackling ability and direct style of play, making him an active participant in attacking efforts. Padilla’s dedication and work ethic were also key factors in his invitation to train in Barcelona.
Barça Residency Arizona remains the only FC Barcelona program in North America, having opened in 2017. The facility is situated in Casa Grande and includes eight soccer fields and a study center affiliated with Arizona State University. It is unique, being the only Barça Academy to feature a team in MLS Next, the premier youth league in the USA.
This initiative not only showcases the potential of young talents from North America but also reinforces FC Barcelona’s commitment to nurturing future stars through training and development programs. Everyone involved holds great hopes for these young athletes as they pursue their dreams on an international stage, paving the way for future opportunities in their soccer careers.
