Barbra Streisand is set to return to the music scene with her new album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two, scheduled for release on June 26. This marks her first studio album in seven years, following her recent experience recording the audiobook for her extensive memoir, My Name is Barbra. Streisand revealed to PEOPLE that the demanding process left her “hoarse,” yet she remains excited about creating new music.
The upcoming album features collaborations with an impressive lineup of artists, including Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Tim McGraw, Mariah Carey, and Ariana Grande. McCartney, who was the first artist to join the project, was described by Streisand as a “no-brainer” for the collaborative effort.
Streisand highlighted the significance of family in her life and the album’s title, stating, “the secret is several things, but one of them is family.” She shared that her daughter-in-law Kathryn helped capture the joyous moments with her grandchildren for the album cover.
Among the album’s tracks is “Letter to My 13 Year Old Self,” a duet with Laufey. In this song, she reflects on her youthful experiences and offers encouraging words to her younger self, emphasizing self-belief and embracing one’s choices.
Despite the challenges faced during her memoir recording, Streisand expressed her unwavering passion for music. “As long as I have a voice, I love the privacy of recording,” she stated, mentioning her long-standing desire to explore songs she’s wanted to sing since her teenage years.
With her extensive career, which includes ten Grammy Awards, Streisand’s dedication to music and storytelling continues to inspire. The release of The Secret of Life: Partners, Volume Two promises to be a celebratory return, blending nostalgia with her remarkable collaborations.
This comeback not only showcases her legendary talent but also demonstrates that creativity and passion do not wane with age. Streisand’s commitment to music serves as a reminder that it’s never too late to pursue one’s dreams.
