In a significant match for Bangladesh cricket, the team is gearing up to face the West Indies in the third and final T20I at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram. The match is set to start at 6:00 pm Bangladesh Standard Time. After losing the first two matches of the series, Bangladesh is determined to avoid a clean sweep.
Batting has emerged as a pressing concern for Bangladesh, who were unable to chase down targets of 165 and 149 in the opening games, allowing the West Indies to clinch the series with one match left. The performances in these matches have raised alarm bells for the Tigers, especially after previously enjoying success in four consecutive bilateral series. The team’s batting weaknesses were laid bare, notably as they failed to reach a target of 150 or below for the second time in three matches.
Tanzid Hasan, who scored a commendable 61 off 48 balls in the second match, expressed the players’ accountability in their batting failures. “Look, whatever the wicket is, 150 was actually chaseable. This is actually the failure of us batsmen,” he acknowledged. “We all couldn’t take responsibility, so it was maybe a bad day for us batsmen. But we need to figure out how to overcome this.”
Unfortunately for the team, the notion of a ‘bad day’ has become all too familiar as they grapple with consistency. The top seven batters for Bangladesh posted a collective batting average of just 23.73 in 2025, ranking them among the lowest in the ICC full member nations. In matches that the team has won, this average drops further, placing them tenth.
Tanzid emphasized the importance of set batsmen finishing the job, noting the challenges posed by the sticky wicket that requires players to be settled to execute aggressive hits. He remarked, “Maybe we are going through a bad phase. We haven’t been consistent. We need to figure out how to be more consistent and how to reduce the number of dot balls in the middle overs and how to increase the strike rate to make the total bigger.”
As the series wraps up, the Bangladesh team has an opportunity to reflect on these challenges and make the necessary adjustments. With determination from players like Tanzid, there is hope that the batting lineup will rise to the occasion and deliver a strong performance in the concluding match against the West Indies.
