Jack Black’s bandmate made a controversial comment Sunday following an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
Kyle Gass, a member of the band “Tenacious D,” expressed his birthday wish in a troubling statement to Black.
“Make a wish,” Black said after singing happy birthday.
“Don’t miss Trump next time,” Gass replied.
Former President Trump survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, where he reported being shot in the ear.
A representative for Gass did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday.
Gass is among several musicians who reacted to the incident. 50 Cent shared an edited picture of his album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” featuring Trump’s head on the rapper’s body.
“Trump gets shot and now I’m trending,” 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, captioned the image on X.
M.I.A. questioned, “how do you miss all those shots fired?”
Following the shooting, Trump posted on Truth Social, attributing his survival to divine intervention.
“We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness,” Trump wrote.
The former president also called for American unity against “evil.”
“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” Trump added.
Addressing the nation on Sunday night, President Joe Biden urged Americans to dial down political hostility.
“While we may disagree, we are not enemies. We’re neighbors. We’re friends, coworkers, citizens. And, most importantly, we are fellow Americans. And we must stand together,” he said. “Yesterday’s shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania calls on all of us to take a step back, take stock of where we are, and consider how we move forward from here.”
