Ana de Armas showcases a stunning combination of ballet elegance and the brutal intensity of assassin combat in the first trailer for the upcoming film From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, set to hit theaters on June 6. This film serves as a prequel, exploring the untold backstory following the events of 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, focusing on Eve Macarro, portrayed by de Armas, as she seeks vengeance against those who murdered her family.
The trailer reveals a young Macarro in a blood-stained corridor, holding a spinning ballerina figurine. An elderly man approaches her with a promise to take her to a dance school, leading her into a grueling training regimen. However, instead of rehearsing classic ballets, she finds herself targeting more lethal adversaries. “To stop the assassin, you must become the assassin,” insists Nogi, played by Sharon Duncan-Brewster, addressing Macarro and other trainees. “You will always be weaker. You will always be smaller. If you want to win, improvise. Adapt. Cheat.”
Macarro was first introduced in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, where she was played by ballet dancer Unity Phelan. De Armas steps into the role for this new installment, which is directed by Len Wiseman and penned by Shay Hatten. Ballerina is the fifth film in the John Wick series and follows the release of 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4. Although originally scheduled for release this year, the film’s launch was postponed to allow Stahelski to connect the storylines of the past and present.
The cast includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus, featuring the last on-screen performance of the late Lance Reddick. Additionally, Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves, reprising his iconic role as John Wick, will also make appearances in the film.
