Balata College in Tavua has celebrated a remarkable achievement, boasting a 100 percent pass rate in the Year 13 Certificate Exam for 2025. This milestone places the institution among a select group of rural schools recognized by the Ministry of Education for their exemplary academic performance.

Principal Umendran Reddy expressed profound pride in the students’ success, framing it as the culmination of a long-term academic goal set by the school’s dedicated team. He remarked, “This is a testament to the hard work of the students, parents and guardians, and not forgetting the teachers who spent countless hours teaching, supervising, and studying with the students months before they sat for their exams.” He highlighted the teachers’ commitment, noting their extra hours devoted to supervision and Saturday classes designed specifically for exam preparation.

Mr. Reddy also acknowledged the invaluable support from the Ministry of Education, thanking them for their ongoing encouragement and guidance in improving academic performance year after year.

Vice Principal Sudeshna Kumar, who oversees the school’s academic programs, shared her dream of achieving a perfect pass rate since her arrival eight years ago. “I’ve been with the school for the past eight years, and since I came, I have been wanting us to get to this level,” she stated. Although the school achieved a 98 percent pass rate in 2020, persistent efforts have finally led to this significant success. “We are very happy that we finally did it,” she added, reflecting the shared joy and pride within the school community.

This achievement underscores the collective dedication and hard work of the Balata College community, highlighting how teamwork and determination can result in remarkable academic accomplishments. The 100 percent pass rate not only serves as an inspiration for the school but also sets a positive precedent for other educational institutions striving for excellence.
