A historic bakery on Staten Island, Holtermann’s Bakery, has refuted claims made by Whoopi Goldberg during a recent episode of The View regarding her 69th birthday desserts. Goldberg implied that the 145-year-old establishment had declined her order due to her political beliefs.

During the show’s Wednesday episode, Goldberg enjoyed Charlotte Russe desserts and noted that she wouldn’t disclose which bakery provided them based on her assumption that they initially refused her order because of her political stance.

However, Jill Holtermann, the bakery owner, clarified that the reason for the initial refusal stemmed from mechanical issues with their baking equipment, rather than any political motivations. Holtermann explained that Goldberg had requested the desserts for both a Nov. 6 appearance on a different show and the Nov. 13 broadcast of The View. She mentioned that she hesitated to confirm the order due to uncertainty surrounding their boiler problems but successfully prepared the desserts in time for Goldberg’s birthday celebration.

Holtermann emphasized that the age of the building often leads to equipment challenges, which can affect order fulfillment. She reiterated that the inability to complete the order was not due to Goldberg’s political views.

Goldberg reflected warmly on the Charlotte Russe dessert during the episode, sharing that it was a favorite of her late mother. Despite the misunderstanding with the bakery, she encouraged everyone to join in celebrating her special day.

This incident highlights the importance of clear communication and the challenges that can arise from misunderstandings, particularly in today’s politically charged atmosphere. Fortunately, it seems all’s well that ends well, with Goldberg able to enjoy her birthday celebration surrounded by friends and cherished desserts.

As a side note, the fond memories tied to specific foods, like the Charlotte Russe for Goldberg, remind us of the personal connections we often have with our favorite treats, linking them to family and cherished moments.
