Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa celebrated a successful debut at the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin on Monday, defeating German player Eva Lys in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. This tournament, played on grass, sees Badosa entering as the eighth seed and currently ranked tenth in the world. Badosa quickly took control by breaking Lys’s serve right at the start, followed by securing four consecutive games in the opening set.
In the second set, Badosa maintained her momentum, going up 2-0 before facing a brief response from Lys. However, another break of serve propelled Badosa toward victory, which she clinched in just over an hour.
Looking ahead, Badosa will face American Emma Navarro in the round of 16, who advanced after defeating Ukrainian player Marta Kostyuk, 6-2, 6-3.
Furthermore, Roberto Bautista also progressed in the ATP 500 tournament in Queen’s, UK, where he faced Portuguese player Nuno Borges. After a challenging match lasting two hours and 31 minutes, Bautista overcame Borges with a scoreline of 6-7(6), 7-5, 6-4. Despite losing a tight first set tiebreak and facing a match point against him in the second set, Bautista displayed resilience to come back and secure his spot in the next round.
In the upcoming match, Bautista will compete against Czech player Jakub Mensik, who triumphed over British opponent Cameron Norrie in three sets.
This positive start for both players underscores their determination and skill as they continue through the grass season, with hopes of making a deep run in these prestigious tournaments.
