Badminton Fiji is set to launch an innovative program this year aimed at high school students to promote and elevate the sport nationwide. Secretary Abel Caine emphasized that this initiative will encompass competitions for various age groups, with a strong reliance on major schools that have proper competition facilities to facilitate these events.

The plan includes a collaborative effort with selected schools to establish dedicated badminton teams, while also encouraging these institutions to allow other schools access to their facilities for training sessions. This initiative aligns with Badminton Fiji’s broader vision as they aim for a successful participation in the 2032 Olympic Games in Australia.

Caine remarked, “We’ve got the equipment, we’ve got the coaches, and we’ve got the time for you. Find a badminton-dedicated teacher, allow other schools to share your school premises, and allow some clubs to use these venues after hours, and that way, badminton will have a bright future.”

The program is designed to act as a developmental pathway, working to identify and nurture fresh talent as the association prepares for future international competitions. Further details are anticipated to be announced following Badminton Fiji’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for next Saturday.

This proactive step not only highlights the commitment of Badminton Fiji to foster young talent but also promises a bright future for the sport in the region. The initiative aims to galvanize community support and engagement, paving the way for a more robust sporting culture in Fiji.
