Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, widely known as the musician Bad Bunny, is set to join the cast of the upcoming sequel to Adam Sandler’s film “Happy Gilmore.” Directed by Kyle Newacheck, who previously worked with Sandler on the Netflix film “Murder Mystery,” this sequel continues the story of a man who transitions from aspiring professional hockey player to golf sensation. Specific plot details remain undisclosed.
Original cast members Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will reprise their roles as Virginia Venit, Sandler’s love interest, and Shooter McGavin, the film’s antagonist. Production has begun, with Sandler sharing an update on Instagram, stating, “It ain’t over. The way I see it… we’ve only just begun.”
Sandler collaborated with Tim Herlihy on the screenplay and will also serve as a producer alongside Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds. Dennis Dugan, who directed the first “Happy Gilmore,” will take on the role of executive producer alongside Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Bausch, and Barry Bernardi.
For Bad Bunny, this role adds to his growing filmography. He has previously starred alongside Brad Pitt in the action comedy “Bullet Train” and Gael García Bernal in the Amazon drama “Cassandro.” He also has a role in Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller “Caught Stealing” at Sony Pictures. In a Vanity Fair cover story from last year, Bad Bunny expressed his commitment to acting, stating he has been investing more into this aspect of his career.
