Bad Bunny is set to take on a new acting role in the upcoming sequel to Adam Sandler’s classic film, Happy Gilmore, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The cast continues to expand with the return of original stars Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, known for dating Taylor Swift, will appear in a minor, yet undisclosed role. Sandler confirmed Kelce’s involvement while promoting the sequel on the Tonight Show last month, after Kelce expressed his desire to join the project.
“I didn’t even know there was a job opening on Happy Gilmore 2,” Kelce remarked on his New Heights podcast, where he jokingly mentioned he would take any role to be part of the Adam Sandler film.
For those unfamiliar, the original Happy Gilmore tells the story of a failed hockey player who discovers a unique talent for golf while trying to reclaim his grandmother’s house from the IRS. The film features Happy navigating golf tournaments with his unconventional skills. In 2014, Rolling Stone readers voted it one of Sandler’s best films.
Kyle Newacheck, who previously directed the Netflix film Murder Mystery with Sandler, will helm the sequel. So far, details regarding the film’s plot and release date have not been disclosed.
Additionally, it was reported last month that Bad Bunny will also star in Caught Stealing, a film directed by Darren Aronofsky, which centers on a former baseball player caught up in New York City’s criminal underbelly. The cast for Caught Stealing includes Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Will Brill.
