Vikram Misri, India’s Foreign Secretary, faced intense backlash on social media after announcing a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Following the unexpected wave of trolling, which included abusive comments aimed at his family, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Association voiced their support. They emphasized that such personal attacks on civil servants performing their duties are both regrettable and unacceptable.
In a show of solidarity, the IAS Association posted on X, reaffirming their commitment to uphold the dignity of public service. Similarly, the Indian Police Service (IPS) Association condemned the attacks, labeling them intolerable and expressing their full support for Mr. Misri. The trolling included vulgar comments that prompted Mr. Misri to lock his account amid concerns over the safety of his daughter.
Several politicians from various parties also condemned the attacks. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi stressed that civil servants should not be victimized for the political decisions made by the government, while Congress leaders like Sachin Pilot and Gaurav Gogoi defended Mr. Misri’s professionalism and dedication to national service. V. Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, highlighted Mr. Misri’s exemplary values and his commitment to serve the nation.
