Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson’s upcoming film, Babygirl, is generating significant buzz, and for good reason.
Babygirl delves into an age-gap romance where a powerful woman engages in a sexual affair with her intern. In this narrative, Kidman plays the lead role involved in the affair, while Dickinson, known for his role in Iron Claw, portrays the intern. However, the film’s power dynamics take an unexpected turn—it’s more about consent and exploration than traditional workplace misconduct.
In a recent interview, Kidman described her role as “liberating,” though she admitted that the intensity of the sex scenes and continual physical interaction led her to briefly halt filming. “There was a significant amount of sharing and trust, which at times resulted in frustration,” she explained. “There were moments when I thought, ‘I really don’t want to engage in this anymore.’”
She elaborated on the emotional toll, expressing feelings of exhaustion: “At times, I felt overwhelmed, wishing to be left alone. I didn’t want to be touched anymore, and it was a challenging experience that felt all-consuming.”
In a conversation with People, Kidman emphasized the significance of having a female director guiding the project. She spoke about taking risks artistically: “There’s a kind of leap of faith where you decide to fully explore this narrative with people you trust, aiming to break new ground, particularly with a female perspective leading the way.”
Additionally, it has been revealed that director Halina Reijn drew inspiration from the famous sexual thriller Basic Instinct, which starred Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas, centering on a woman seeking fulfillment outside of her unfulfilling marriage.
