Ba Rugby Union is set to embark on a dynamic and engaging 2026 season, as highlighted by the recent release of its official year planner. The calendar is packed with competitions and activities, launching with the Annual General Meeting scheduled for March 7. This will be followed by a development tournament for U14, U16, and U18 players, which will commence on March 21 and conclude with the final on May 2.

In a groundbreaking development, the 4R Stadium at Govind Park in Ba will host its inaugural Super Rugby match between the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the Brumbies on March 28, marking a significant milestone for the region. Additionally, local club competitions will kick off on May 9, featuring eight thrilling matches, with the grand final anticipated to occur on July 18, just in time for the first round of the Skipper Cup starting July 25.

Gabby Kautoga, the Ba Rugby secretary, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming year, emphasizing their commitment to player development. “We are looking forward to an exciting year, especially with the programs we have planned for development,” Kautoga stated.

A major initiative for 2026 is the establishment of an academy at Ba Methodist High School, which aims to cultivate schoolboys’ rugby talent and enhance the pathways for young athletes within the district. Kautoga noted that Ba Rugby is also focused on qualifying teachers with Level One and Level Two coaching certificates and ensuring that local clubs adhere to accreditation standards.

“This year we are focusing on development, from schools to clubs. We want our teachers and coaches to be properly accredited so they can help build the future of Ba Rugby,” he added, reinforcing the importance of structured training for coaches.

With an ambitious calendar and a clear development agenda, Ba Rugby is optimistic that 2026 will usher in a positive era for the sport in the district, promising an exciting year for players and fans alike. Kautoga concluded, “It will be an exciting year for Ba Rugby.”
