BA Methodist High School is gearing up to showcase a strong Under-18 rugby team in this year’s Deans competition, a promising outcome attributed to the recently launched Ba Rugby Union Youth Academy at the school. This initiative, which commenced earlier this year, is designed to enhance the development of junior players in Ba and has already begun to transform the school’s rugby program significantly.
U18 coach Ioana Lewatiakana expresses optimism about the team’s performance this season, highlighting fans can expect a revitalized Ba Methodist squad. The team’s recent win against the Eastern Saints U18 squad underscores their potential, demonstrating the players’ discipline and commitment despite having limited time for training and organization.
The academy currently features an expanded roster of 32 players, with 20 actively engaged in a rigorous training regimen at Ba Methodist. The initiative has successfully attracted talent from nearby regions, including aspiring players traveling from as far as Tavua and Nadi, adding further depth and competitiveness to the team.
Lewatiakana remarked on the importance of the academy as a solid platform for young athletes, providing them with quality coaching and guidance, which is anticipated to benefit both Ba Rugby and Ba Methodist High School in the long run. With such a strong foundation and diverse talent pool, the future looks bright for Ba Methodist in this year’s Deans competition, promising an exhilarating season for both the team and its supporters.
