The upcoming FMF Inter-District Championship (IDC) is set to bring significant economic activity to Ba as it hosts the tournament from October 7 to 12 at the Four R Stadium. This event marks a major return of football to the town, as it is the first significant tournament hosted there since the venue was damaged by Cyclone Winston.
Dinesh Patel, President of the Ba Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is hopeful about the economic benefits the event will bring. The tournament is expected to attract a large number of visitors to Ba, generating increased activity for local businesses, especially for the smaller establishments and stalls.
The Ba Town Council is actively preparing to ensure the success of the tournament. Moshim Khan, Chair of the Ba Town Council Board of Special Administrators, stated that temporary floodlights will be installed to facilitate night matches. Final preparations are in progress, with collaboration and support from the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) to ensure a seamless event.
In addition to the IDC, the Ba Football Association will celebrate its 90th anniversary during the tournament, adding to the excitement and significance of the event for the community and business houses alike.
This development not only highlights the town’s readiness to host national events but also signifies the resilience and potential economic recovery for Ba, following years of infrastructural upgrades. As the town gears up for the influx of football fans and tourists, there is a renewed focus on leveraging such events to boost local commerce and community spirits.
The IDC’s return to Ba emphasizes the ongoing commitment from local authorities and the Fiji FA to enhance sporting infrastructure and deliver high-quality sports events across the region, fostering a culture of community engagement and economic prosperity.
