The Ba Muslim futsal team achieved a remarkable victory at the FMF Muslim Futsal IDC, claiming the championship trophy by defeating Valelevu 4-2 in a thrilling final at Suva’s FMF Gymnasium. The match was a testament to the team’s prowess, with key contributions from Imran Wali Khan, Faazil Faizul Ali, and Zaim Khan, each netting goals to secure the win. Valelevu put forth a valiant effort, highlighted by a goal from Zishaan Nasibdar, but Ba’s strong start, including a commanding 2-0 lead at halftime, ultimately determined the outcome.
Coach Amit Kumar expressed his elation with the team’s performance, stating that the victory represented a “mission accomplished.” This win not only underscores Ba’s resilience and skill but also strengthens their status as a formidable force in Fijian futsal.
In addition to Ba’s success, other teams also shone at the tournament. The Maigania under-15 team celebrated a title victory, edging out Nadi with a close 2-1 scoreline. In the Legends final, the Suva team, led by captain Intiaz Khan, triumphed over Nakasi with a decisive 3-0 victory. Meanwhile, Makoi secured a thrilling win in the Masters division, overcoming North East 3-1 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular and extra time. Maiganya also added to their success by winning the Plate final against Navua, finishing 2-1.
The high level of competition and sheer number of participating teams highlight the growing popularity of futsal within the community, showcasing a wealth of promising talent across various age groups. Organized by the Fiji Muslim Sports Association, the tournament continues to attract significant interest, signaling a positive trajectory for the sport’s future in the region.
