Azerbaijan’s commitment to multilateralism in its foreign policy was highlighted by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalcin Rafiyev during a discussion titled “The Rise of the Global South and the West: the Role of Azerbaijan, New Opportunities for Cooperation and Development.” This event took place at the Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations of the Parliament.

During his address, Rafiyev pointed out that the Global South, representing 85 percent of the world’s population and accounting for 39 percent of global GDP, is undergoing significant political and economic transformation. He underscored the importance of this developing region in the context of international relations and highlighted Azerbaijan’s proactive efforts in supporting the institutionalization of the Non-Aligned Movement, which aims to foster cooperation among countries not aligned with major power blocks.

This focus on building connections and support within the Global South illustrates Azerbaijan’s strategic approach to enhancing its role on the world stage. By advocating for multilateral cooperation, Azerbaijan not only elevates its own standing but also contributes to the emerging opportunities for collaboration and development among nations in the Global South.

Rafiyev’s remarks reflect a positive outlook on the evolving dynamics of global interactions, emphasizing the potential for partnership and mutual growth.
