Formula 1 has confirmed a long-term contract for the Austrian Grand Prix, ensuring that the Red Bull Ring will remain on the F1 calendar until 2041. This agreement places the Austrian circuit alongside the Miami Grand Prix, which also recently secured an extension running through the 2040s.
The decision reflects F1’s recent trend of establishing prolonged contracts with circuits. Just two weeks prior, Canada also announced an extension to remain on the schedule until at least 2035.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed his enthusiasm, noting Austria’s unique significance in the world of Formula 1. He highlighted the contributions of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, founder of Red Bull, whose vision and investment transformed the event into a prominent fixture in the F1 calendar. Domenicali emphasizes the picturesque backdrop of the Styrian mountains, which creates a thrilling atmosphere for drivers, teams, and fans alike.
The Red Bull Ring has gained immense popularity since its return to the F1 roster in 2014, following a lengthy and sporadic history that began in 1964. After several interruptions and changes in ownership, the venue resumed its place in Formula 1 under the stewardship of Mateschitz, who undertook significant renovations to revitalize the circuit.
Mark Mateschitz, Dietrich’s son, expressed pride in continuing his father’s legacy and the commitment to preserving the rich history of motor racing in the region, reaffirming Austria’s close connections to Formula 1 as a solid foundation for future collaboration.
This long-term contract is a positive development for motorsport fans, signaling continued growth and stability in the relationship between Formula 1 and the Red Bull Ring, and fostering enthusiasm among the Austrian fanbase. The enduring presence of such iconic races contributes not only to the sport’s heritage but also promotes regional pride and tourism, providing a hopeful outlook for years to come.
