The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has strengthened the digital investigative capacity of the Fiji Police Force by supplying new equipment to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Suva. During a formal ceremony, Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy from the AFP presented the equipment to Senior Superintendent of Police Serupepeli Neiko, the CID Director.
This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration under the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the AFP and the Fiji Police Force. The MOU aims to enhance institutional capabilities across vital areas of policing. The partnership allows the AFP to assist Fiji in specialized sectors such as investigations, leadership development, and the FPF UPLIFT program, which focuses on rebuilding public trust and fostering transformative changes within the police force.
SSP Neiko expressed his appreciation for the AFP’s sustained support, emphasizing that the new digital forensic tools will significantly bolster investigations into cybercrime and electronic evidence, leading to more effective policing results.
This equipment handover builds on previous upgrades to the Fiji Police’s forensic sciences, facilitated by the AFP, which includes high-tech solutions designed for better evidence collection and processing in criminal cases. These upgrades align with strategic efforts to integrate modern techniques and tackle complex security issues in the region.
As Fiji continues to enhance its law enforcement capabilities, the ongoing support from Australia underscores a commitment to regional collaboration that promotes a safer environment. This partnership not only demonstrates positive international cooperation but also serves as a beacon of hope for bolstered safety and security throughout the Pacific.
