The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has enhanced the digital investigative capabilities of the Fiji Police Force by providing new equipment to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Suva. During a formal handover ceremony, AFP Senior Officer in Suva, Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy, conveyed the equipment to the Director of CID, Senior Superintendent of Police Serupepeli Neiko.
This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration under the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the AFP and Fiji Police Force, aiming to boost institutional capacity across essential policing areas. The partnership facilitates the AFP’s assistance to Fiji in specialized domains, including investigations, leadership development, and the FPF UPLIFT program, which aims to improve public trust and bring about transformative changes within the organization.
SSP Neiko expressed gratitude towards the AFP for their enduring support. He highlighted that the new digital forensic tools would significantly enhance the investigations related to cybercrime and electronic evidence, thereby leading to more effective and efficient policing outcomes.
This development follows other recent upgrades to the Fiji Police’s forensic sciences through similar support from the AFP, which includes advanced technology meant to improve evidence collection and processing in investigations. The upgrade coincides with strategic initiatives aimed at integrating modern techniques and addressing complex security challenges in the region.
As Fiji continues to advance its law enforcement capabilities, ongoing support from Australia reflects a dedication to regional collaboration that fosters a safer environment. This partnership stands as a beacon of hope for improved safety and security in the Pacific, showcasing how international cooperation can lead to successful outcomes in addressing shared challenges.
