The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Fiji Police Force (FPF) with the recent delivery of crucial equipment to enhance the operations of the Criminal Investigations Department’s Digital Forensic Unit. The transfer was carried out by Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy, an AFP Senior Officer based in Suva, and received by Senior Superintendent of Police Serupepeli Neiko, the Director of CID.
This new equipment is instrumental in improving the Digital Forensic Unit’s ability to conduct in-depth investigations that involve digital evidence, particularly in relation to cyber crimes. This initiative is part of the ongoing collaboration under the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding, which seeks to strengthen the partnership between the two nations’ law enforcement agencies. The memorandum emphasizes capacity building across various policing areas, including leadership development and community engagement through the FPF UPLIFT program, aimed at fostering police-public trust.
The support from the AFP signifies a broader commitment to enhancing Fiji’s law enforcement capabilities. Previous initiatives included donations of advanced technology and training programs designed to modernize Fiji’s policing framework. Such collaborative efforts are expected to lead to improved law enforcement practices, increased proficiency in dealing with organized crime, and ultimately a safer environment for Fiji’s communities.
As Fiji continues to develop its police capacities through such international partnerships, the collaborative spirit evidenced by these programs instills hope for a more secure future in the Pacific region. The ongoing support from Australia not only strengthens Fiji’s police framework but also nurtures trust and cooperation among regional allies, paving the way for enhanced safety and shared stability in the Pacific.
