COLUMBIA, Mo. — Auburn football suffered a disappointing defeat, allowing a 14-point lead to slip away in the second half as they lost to No. 16 Missouri, 21-17, on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Auburn, now 2-5 overall and still winless in SEC play at 0-4, was unable to secure its first conference victory against the 6-1 Mizzou squad. Missouri’s quarterback Brady Cook, who exited the contest in the first quarter, returned to lead a late-game comeback with two touchdown drives, the final of which ended with Jamal Roberts scoring the go-ahead touchdown with just 46 seconds left in the game.
Auburn will look to rebound next week as they travel to face Kentucky.
In the game, Missouri started strong with an early field goal and maintained a narrow lead into the halftime break, with the score tied at 3-3. Auburn’s offense awakened in the second half, scoring two touchdowns, including a 47-yard touchdown pass from Payton Thorne to Cam Coleman. However, the tide turned as Mizzou rallied, with Cook throwing a deep pass to Mookie Cooper and later reaching the end zone to regain control of the game.
With the final moments ticking down, Auburn failed to convert on fourth down, sealing their fate. The scoring summary revealed a tough battle, with Auburn initially taking the lead but ultimately falling short as Missouri capitalized on defensive mistakes.
The game featured a back-and-forth nature, and despite some strong plays from Auburn, they could not finish strong to secure the win. Auburn will need to regroup as they aim to secure a win in their next matchup against Kentucky.
