AUBURN – Auburn football is off to a strong start in their season opener against Alabama A&M, scoring on four of their first five drives. Quarterback Payton Thorne has thrown for three touchdowns, one of which was caught by freshman standout Cam Coleman, marking his first collegiate touchdown in the first quarter.
This is Hugh Freeze’s second season as head coach after ending his first season with a 6-7 record and a loss in the Music City Bowl. Freeze joined Auburn from Liberty, having previously coached at Ole Miss.
The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ at Jordan Hare Stadium.
As for the score updates, the highlight includes a touchdown pass of 37 yards from Hank Brown to Sam Jackson, putting Auburn ahead 72-3. Furthermore, a blocked punt was recovered for a touchdown, bringing the score to Auburn 59, Alabama A&M 3.
At halftime, Auburn leads decisively with a score of 52-3. Notable players include Payton Thorne, who completed 13 of 21 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown. Keandre Lambert-Smith contributed with three catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns, while Perry Thompson had two catches for 82 yards and one touchdown.
The game’s scoring started with Jarquez Hunter’s 37-yard touchdown run, followed by a 67-yard touchdown pass from Thorne to Keandre Lambert-Smith. The first quarter ended with Auburn leading 28-0.
The weather at kickoff is expected to be around 88°F with partly cloudy skies, dropping below 80°F as the evening progresses.
