The concert, organized by LiveNation—a company with extensive experience in large-scale event planning—was designed to create an electrifying atmosphere. However, the documentary features commentary from photographer Kirby Gladstein, who noted that organizers aimed for a chaotic ambiance intended to energize the crowd. Unfortunately, this led to disastrous consequences when the crowd surged dangerously as Scott took the stage at 9 p.m.
As fans crowded toward the front, the conditions quickly became perilous, leaving many trapped. Despite reports of distress from the audience, Scott continued to perform until 10 p.m. A LiveNation manager’s alarming transcript, revealed in the documentary, outlined the dire state of the situation. It indicated that multiple CPR efforts were underway, with urgent calls to halt the show made mere minutes before the concert ended.
In total, the tragedy resulted in 10 deaths, alongside 25 hospitalizations and over 300 minor injuries. Reflecting on the incident, Scott expressed his profound sorrow in a November 2023 interview with GQ, describing himself as “overly devastated” and emphasizing the importance of his fans in his life, comparing them to family.
