Asia Cup Trophy Mystery at ICC Board Meeting Sparks India-Pakistan Talks

There was significant anticipation surrounding the attendance of Mohsin Naqvi, the chair of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), at the ICC Board meeting in Dubai. Naqvi arrived just an hour before the meeting was set to commence, which added to the intrigue of the event.

A key topic of discussion was the Asia Cup trophy’s status, particularly in light of India winning the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia was expected to address this issue during the meeting. Although the trophy matter did not make it onto the formal agenda nor was it discussed during the Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting earlier, there were informal conversations among board members about it. Saikia pointed out that India had yet to receive the trophy, indicating a growing concern among the stakeholders involved.

Despite the suspense regarding Naqvi’s participation, he managed to arrive in time for the meeting. Interestingly, he missed the earlier informal discussions that took place among the attendees. It is understood that there was optimism in the room, with attendees believing that the impasse surrounding the trophy could soon be resolved. Importantly, meetings remain collaborative, with no heated disputes arising during the discussions.

An administrator present at the meetings indicated that while concrete steps towards a resolution have yet to be determined—such as whether the ICC might need to intervene or create a committee—there was a positive atmosphere among the representatives. Saikia, who is currently in communication with media sources, may provide further insights into the discussions that occurred at the meeting.

The attendance of both Naqvi and Saikia signals a willingness to collaborate and potentially resolve the trophy matter amicably, fostering further development in the relations between the two cricketing nations.
