Ashley Jackson, the 26-year-old daughter of the late civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, is making strides in her career as a writer, producer, and activist, while honoring her father’s legacy following his passing at the age of 84 last month. Born from Rev. Jackson’s acknowledged extramarital affair, Ashley has become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, focusing on narratives that resonate with and uplift marginalized communities.

Ashley, born on May 18, 1999, is the child of Rev. Jackson and Dr. Karin Stanford, a former staff member at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition in Washington, D.C. In a public acknowledgment in 2001, Rev. Jackson expressed his commitment to Ashley, affirming his responsibilities and expressing his love for her. He was married to Jacqueline Jackson for over 60 years and had five other children with her.

Professionally, Jackson identifies as a writer, producer, actress, and impact leader. She is currently working as a staff writer for the eagerly anticipated sequel of “A Different World” on Netflix, declaring it her “dream job.” Additionally, she established Rainbow Child Productions to create a three-part docuseries focusing on her father’s influential legacy, which is directed by Prentice Penny and features personal narratives from her perspective.

Ashley has appeared on screen, notably portraying “Niyah” in the 2019 Netflix film “Beats” as well as a role in the 2020 Sundance Film Festival drama “Blast Beat.” Earlier in her career, she performed music under the name AJae, showcasing a mix of pop, R&B, and hip-hop styles.

Her educational accomplishments include graduating summa cum laude from Spelman College in 2020, where she was among the top ten graduates and crafted an independent major centered on “African American Narratives in Cinema and Television.” In 2025, she became the first Spelman graduate to complete her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Southern California’s Peter Stark Producing Program.

In addition to her creative pursuits, Jackson is a passionate vegan and animal rights advocate. She collaborates with PETA on initiatives encompassing food justice and legislative efforts to expand access to vegan food in underserved communities. Furthermore, she is involved with the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, where she raises awareness about domestic sex trafficking through campaigns such as “Lend My Voice.” Jackson articulated her commitment to advocacy by stating, “My involvement… are examples of my commitment to uplifting marginalized communities and giving voice to the voiceless.”

Despite the initial controversies surrounding her birth, Ashley shared a deep bond with her father. Following his death, she united with her half-siblings at a family gathering in Chicago, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue and collective action. In unveiling her docuseries project, she expressed a desire to educate younger generations about Rev. Jackson’s work, reflecting on the lack of visibility for his contributions even during significant observances like Black History Month.

Through her endeavors in film, activism, and production, Ashley Jackson is not only carving out her own path but is also dedicated to preserving and amplifying her father’s influential legacy for future generations.
