Ashley Biden, the daughter of President Joe Biden, is making a rare public appearance as she prepares to introduce her father at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday evening. Known for her preference to stay out of the limelight, Ashley’s involvement in the event marks a significant moment for the president’s family.

At 43 years old, Ashley Biden is a dedicated social worker from Wilmington, Delaware, where she has focused primarily on mental health and family services throughout her career. Prior to her current pursuits, she worked at the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families and later led the Delaware Center for Justice, a nonprofit organization that assists residents affected by the criminal justice system. In 2019, she stepped back from her role at the agency to support her father’s campaign.

Ashley is currently pursuing a doctorate in clinical social work at the University of Pennsylvania, aiming to create a wellness center for women dealing with trauma, as highlighted in a 2023 profile in Elle magazine.

She is the only child of First Lady Jill Biden, who was formerly a school teacher and served as the Second Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. President Biden has four children in total, with Ashley and Hunter Biden being the only surviving siblings. He faced profound loss in 1972 when his first wife, Neilia, and their infant daughter, Naomi, died in a tragic car accident, while his son, Beau, passed away from brain cancer in 2015.

Ashley Biden married Howard Krein, an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon, in 2012. They have no children and Krein was part of the Biden campaign’s coronavirus response team, which drew some criticism due to his investments in COVID-related startups.

Despite her connection to the presidency, Ashley Biden has largely maintained a low profile and does not engage with social media, emphasizing her desire to stay out of the public eye. She gained media attention in 2020 when her diary was stolen by Aimee Harris, who later sold it to the right-wing organization Project Veritas for $20,000. Harris ultimately pleaded guilty to the theft and received a brief prison sentence.

Ashley is expected to speak after her mother, Jill Biden, at the convention, with President Biden scheduled to address the audience later in the evening. The theme of the first night is “For the People,” as speakers reflect on the president’s legacy and prepare for the transition toward the upcoming election.
