Ashanti & Nelly’s Bold Move to Protect Their Son’s Privacy

Grammy-winning artist Ashanti, 44, and her partner Nelly are making a concerted effort to keep their son, Kareem “KK” Kenkaide Haynes, out of the public eye for the time being. During a recent interview at the 2025 American Black Film Festival, Ashanti affirmed her commitment to protecting her child’s privacy, revealing that his face will be blurred out in their upcoming reality show, “We Belong Together,” set to premiere on Peacock on June 26.

Ashanti expressed her protective instincts, stating, “There was no hesitation. I knew I was not gonna show my son… I just feel like I’m kind of like a mama bear already, you know? Very protective.” This strong desire to safeguard Kareem’s privacy also extends to her social media presence, as she has yet to post any pictures of him on Instagram, emphasizing that their moments together are personal and cherished.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti elaborated on her feelings about her son’s importance: “I just feel like he’s so important to me and I don’t know if I want to share that. And he’s a beautiful baby. He’s definitely my twin.” Meanwhile, she playfully noted that Nelly is eager to share images of KK but maintains that the timing isn’t right just yet.

Their approach to privacy is particularly notable in today’s celebrity culture, where children of stars are often in the spotlight. With their new addition to the family, Ashanti shares that motherhood has profoundly altered her life in wonderful ways, describing the experience as “amazing,” “incredible,” and a blessing.

This conscientious decision reflects a broader trend among celebrity parents who aim to prioritize their children’s well-being over public exposure. Whenever the couple does decide to introduce KK to their fans, it will be on their own terms, which is a refreshing stance in an era dominated by constant social media sharing.
