Ashanti and Nelly have welcomed their first child together, marking a significant milestone in their relationship. On August 21, the 43-year-old singer announced the birth of their son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, born on July 18. The couple has affectionately nicknamed him “KK.”
In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” Ashanti shared that the name Kenkaide honors her father. She expressed her commitment to motherhood, stating, “My son definitely dictates everything now, he is the priority overall… this little boy has my entire soul wrapped around his finger.”
On the same day, Ashanti also took to Instagram to reflect on her journey into motherhood. She humorously noted that life doesn’t always follow a set schedule, mentioning her long wait to become a mom and her pride in her body for bringing her baby into the world.
2024 has been eventful for the couple, who first dated in the early 2000s and rekindled their romance last year. Earlier this year, Ashanti confirmed their pregnancy and, in June, it was reported that they had quietly married in December 2023.
At the 2023 VMAs, Ashanti appeared to reaffirm their relationship, sharing a sentimental moment about where they first connected. “Everything is lining up in the universe,” she said, expressing her happiness.
