Pacer Arundhati Reddy’s impressive performance, which included a four-wicket haul, played a pivotal role in India’s victory over Australia in the first women’s T20I held in Sydney. With figures of 4 for 22, Reddy helped restrict Australia to a total of just 133 runs, leading India to a 21-run victory via the DLS method and giving them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Indian bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi praised Reddy’s preparation and work ethic, noting that her success in such a critical match was a gratifying achievement for the entire team. “Arundhati is a very hard-working girl. She comes prepared for any tournaments she participates in,” he stated during a press conference in Canberra.

Salvi highlighted Reddy’s journey, mentioning that despite not playing in the World Cup, she remained focused on her preparations during the Women’s Premier League (WPL). He recalled her previous performance in Australia, where she also claimed four wickets during an ODI at the WACA last December.

Arundhati’s entry into the game came when Australia was positioned at 68 for 2. She quickly made an impact by taking out key players including Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Georgia Wareham, and Darcie Brown, which ultimately led to Australia being bowled out significantly below par. Salvi commended her execution of plans and the confidence she displayed during her bowling stint.

He also credited the team’s early preparations for their successful start in the series. “The win in Sydney will be a confidence booster for the entire team,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of their practice sessions and competitive games prior to the T20I. “That gives us a chance to explore and experience, and execute plans we wanted to see in the main game,” Salvi added.

With this victory, India not only showcased their talent but also underscored the importance of hard work and preparation as they move forward in the series. The performance of players like Arundhati Reddy instills hope for a successful campaign against a formidable opponent like Australia.
