In a vibrant showcase of culture and creativity, youth groups participating in the “Qiri kapa” (drum beating) competition were all celebrated as winners during an event held by ARUKA Fiji at the Raiwaqa basketball court last Saturday. Founded by Inoke Drauna, ARUKA Fiji aims to empower young individuals by providing them with opportunities to demonstrate their talents while also raising awareness about vital support services, including child protection and HIV awareness.

Drauna underscored the significance of such initiatives in ensuring that young people can access essential resources. He expressed appreciation for the collaboration with organizations like Save the Children, Reproductive Family Health, and the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection. These partnerships are focused on improving community understanding of available resources.

Moreover, Drauna pointed out that engaging with creative activities like drum beating is an effective way to include youth who may often feel marginalized in community events. This not only honors cultural traditions but also fosters a sense of community and encourages young people to take part actively.

In addition to these cultural initiatives, ARUKA Fiji also promotes youth well-being through its toll-free helpline, 1528, which offers mental health and social support services. The event not only highlighted individual talent but also demonstrated a commitment to reinforcing community support structures for the youth of Fiji, paving a hopeful path forward for future generations.
