BEYOND THE CANVAS will showcase the finest arts and culture reporting from PBS NEWSHOUR’s CANVAS arts series, premiering Season 3 with new episodes that dive into unique themes through artist profiles and personal narratives.
The first episode, titled “Art All Around Us,” will air on Friday, August 23, at 9:30 p.m. on KPBS 2 and will also be available for streaming via the PBS app. This episode highlights artists who demonstrate that art permeates every aspect of life, featuring tales from women big wave surfers and Latino baseball pioneers.
The second episode, “Art: Innovated,” is available for streaming now on the PBS app. It celebrates innovation in art, showcasing creators who are redefining their craft, including comedian Ziwe, Grammy-winner Arooj Aftab, and Broadway star Andre de Shields.
The third episode, “Art, To Change The World,” is also available for streaming and investigates the transformative power of art as a social agent. This segment includes insights from Academy Award-winning actor Riz Ahmed and portrait photographer Jess T. Dugan.
The fourth episode, “Art, Black Women Lead,” recognizes the significant artistic impact of Black women and their contributions to the cultural landscape and is currently streaming on the PBS app.
The fifth episode, “Art, The Power of Words,” explores how writers, poets, and lyricists convey their experiences through evocative writing, featuring conversations with talents such as Brandi Carlile, Louise Erdrich, and Rissi Palmer, available now for streaming.
