Cynthia Jensen, a renowned sculptor, and her husband, filmmaker Harris Cohen, are set to showcase their respective talents at this year’s Marin County Fair, running from July 2-6. The couple, based in Tiburon, is contributing to the fair’s “Bug-Tastic” theme.

Jensen, 77, will feature a series of eco-inspired sculptures crafted from recycled materials, depicting over 40 different insects, including dragonflies, beetles, mosquitoes, and ladybugs. Her artwork not only highlights the beauty of these creatures but also emphasizes the significant impact humans have on insect populations. Fair attendees can engage with the exhibit by scanning QR codes for more information about each insect.

Harris Cohen, 88, will present his short documentary film, “Passages: A Video Memoir,” at the fair. Scheduled for screening at 6:15 p.m. on July 3 during the Doc-Fest in the Showcase Theater, the film serves as a retrospective of his impressive career in videography and production, which has included editing Vietnam War footage and contributions to local station KPIX Channel 5. Initially created for his grandchildren, the documentary aims to provide them with insights into his life’s work.

In addition to the insect sculptures, Jensen’s exhibition will also explore deep-sea ecosystems with footage of marine sanctuaries and features like Coral reefs and the Cordell Bank off Point Reyes National Seashore. The fair represents a wonderful opportunity for the community to appreciate the intersection of art, environmentalism, and history through the works of this creative couple.

With their contributions, Jensen and Cohen are not only sharing their artistic expressions but also fostering awareness about critical environmental issues, making this fair experience both educational and inspiring for attendees.
