Arsenal marked a return to form on Saturday afternoon, triumphing over Leicester City with a 4-2 win at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners showcased dominance in the first half, taking the lead when Jurriën Timber delivered a low cross that allowed Gabriel Martinelli to find the net for his first Premier League goal of the season. Martinelli continued to ignite the home side’s attacking plays, assisting Leandro Trossard’s goal, which doubled Arsenal’s advantage before halftime.
Manager Mikel Arteta watched his team hold 76% possession by the close of the first half, but Leicester City responded shortly after the break. James Justin’s effort, deflected off Kai Havertz from a Facundo Buonanotte free kick, brought the Foxes back into contention.
Mads Hermansen, Leicester’s goalkeeper, made key saves against Gabriel Magalhães and Trossard, but Justin managed to equalize with a spectacular strike that hit off the post. Arsenal had opportunities to regain the lead, but Hermansen continued to thwart them.
In a bid to earn a late victory, Arsenal introduced Raheem Sterling and Ethan Nwaneri. Trossard eventually restored Arsenal’s advantage in the 94th minute when his shot was inadvertently deflected in by Wilfred Ndidi. Havertz later scored to finalize the match at 4-2.
The win brings Arsenal level on points with Manchester City and demonstrates their ability to secure late victories, as well as their proficiency in converting set pieces. Bukayo Saka also had an impressive performance, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
While the Gunners showed strong performance, there were moments of concentration lapses, notably with Calafiori’s close call with a yellow card. However, these issues were minor in the context of an otherwise commanding showing.
Manager Mikel Arteta received a rating of 7 for his ability to create multiple scoring opportunities and manage the match effectively despite the unfortunate goals conceded.
Player ratings included an average performance from goalkeeper David Raya at 5, while standout players included Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, both receiving 8, and Bukayo Saka, who earned a commendable 9 for his consistent threat on the flank.
