Arne Slot expressed his belief that he was unfairly issued a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor during the recent match. The Dutch head coach received the card for dissent in the second half as he became increasingly frustrated with the home team’s tactics of going down for treatment, which he felt was aimed at disrupting the flow of the game.
At that point, Liverpool was trailing 2-1 but managed to equalize late in the game thanks to a goal from Mohamed Salah. Slot’s second yellow card of the season puts him just one card away from facing a touchline suspension.
“Last time, I admitted I fully deserved the yellow card against Chelsea. This time, however, I don’t think I did,” Slot stated.
He noted that while players occasionally go down, his frustration stemmed from the fact that many players fell after regaining ball possession, which he believed dampened the game’s energy.
He recounted a specific incident involving Ibou Konate, stating, “This is a ****ing joke.” However, the fourth official, Sam Barrott, misinterpreted his comment as directed at the official, leading to the yellow card. Slot emphasized that he needed to be cautious moving forward due to his current tally of two yellow cards this season.
