Army Seeks Must-Win Bounceback at UTSA to Keep Bowl Hopes Alive

As the Army Black Knights prepare for a crucial matchup against Texas San Antonio on Saturday, November 29, they are motivated by a strong track record of bouncing back from previous losses. With a current record of 5-5, Army is in dire need of a victory to secure bowl eligibility after a disappointing 26-25 loss to Tulsa, where they squandered a late 25-14 lead.

Historically, the Black Knights have shown resilience following defeats, having only experienced one two-game losing streak in the last 28 matches, which occurred during the final two weekends of September this season. Overall, since November 2023, Army has rebounded effectively after losses, winning six of seven games following setbacks.

Head coach Jeff Monken emphasized the importance of maintaining a forward-focused mindset. “There’s the human element, whether it’s a victory and being proud, or defeat and disappointment,” he remarked. He believes that the rigorous environment at West Point instills a unique toughness and resilience in the players. This camaraderie drives the team to perform their best for one another, especially following the disappointment of the recent loss against Tulsa.

Army’s struggles against Tulsa included yielding a troubling 230 rushing yards, marking the worst performance since a previous match against Notre Dame in 2024. The defense notably missed 20 tackles, allowing Tulane running back Dominic Richardson to gain 203 yards, with over half of those gained after first contact.

In contrast, the Roadrunners of UTSA, whom Army faces next, have averaged 174.8 rushing yards per game, with key players Robert Henry and Will Henderson making significant contributions. Army enters this matchup as 7.5-point underdogs but aims to shift the momentum in their favor, reflecting on past performances where losses were followed by notable victories, such as wins over Air Force and Kansas State this season.

With the game scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET at the Alamodome in San Antonio, fans can catch the action live on ESPN Plus. The Army football radio network will also provide coverage, ensuring supporters can follow their team as they aim for a vital win that would not only enhance their bowl prospects but also strengthen team spirit and brotherhood.

This upcoming game represents more than just a win-loss scenario; it’s an opportunity for the Black Knights to showcase their tenacity and commitment to bouncing back, continuing the storied tradition of resilience that defines Army football.
