A temporary bypass road at Armco Crossing near Semo Village is scheduled to open tomorrow following a road slip that disrupted access to the area. Apisai Ketenilagi, Chief Executive of the Fiji Roads Authority, reported that repair efforts are progressing on schedule despite the challenges encountered.

The problem originated from two large culverts under the crossing that had corroded and were further weakened by high water flow, leading to a collapse of the road. Engineering teams are currently conducting ground surveys as water levels recede, enabling a clearer evaluation of the situation.

Ketenilagi noted the goal is to finish necessary repairs by tonight. “We will target to complete by today, but due to the late arrival of crossings transported from other zones, we aim to continue working through the night. Hopefully, by tomorrow, we should be able to open to traffic,” he stated.

He stressed that public safety remains the top priority, mentioning that a temporary pedestrian crossing has been set up and bus services are operational on both sides of the affected area. Crews are committed to working overnight on the road repairs to facilitate vehicle movement by tomorrow. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while navigating the narrow rural bypass routes during this time.

This proactive approach by the authorities highlights their dedication to maintaining safe and accessible roads for the community. The quick restoration of traffic flow will significantly alleviate the challenges faced by residents impacted by this disruption.
