A temporary bypass road at Armco Crossing near Semo Village is set to open tomorrow after a road slip disrupted access to the area. Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Apisai Ketenilagi reported that the repair work is on schedule despite the challenges faced.

The issue arose from two large culverts beneath the crossing that had corroded and were further compromised by strong water flow, leading to the collapse of the road. Engineering teams are currently conducting ground surveys as water levels continue to decrease, allowing for a clearer assessment of the situation.

Ketenilagi indicated the target is to complete the necessary repairs by tonight. “We will target to complete by today, but due to the late arrival of crossings transported from other zones, we are aiming to continue working through the night. Hopefully, by tomorrow, we should be able to open to traffic,” he mentioned.

He emphasized that ensuring public safety is the top priority, noting that a temporary pedestrian crossing has been established and bus services are operational on both sides of the affected area. Crews are dedicated to working overnight on the road repairs to facilitate vehicle movement by tomorrow. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while using the narrow rural bypass routes during this period.

This proactive response by the authorities underscores their commitment to maintaining safe and accessible roads for the community, and the swift restoration of traffic flow will provide much-needed relief to those affected by the disruption.
