On Thanksgiving morning, Arlington will host the 19th annual Turkey Trot, where thousands of participants will brave the elements in a 5K run. Despite the anticipated rainy conditions, around 4,000 runners and walkers are expected to turn out for this cherished local event, which is sold out once again this year.
The Turkey Trot not only provides a festive way to kick off the holiday, but it also supports the community, as the Christ Church of Arlington donates the net proceeds to 18 local non-profit organizations.
The race route begins and ends in the Lyons Park area at the intersection of N. Pershing Drive and Fillmore Street, winding through Ashton Heights. Due to the race, several roads will experience closures from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Arlington County Police have listed specific streets that will be affected, advising residents and drivers to plan accordingly.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early, as packet pick-up will start at 6:30 a.m. before the race kicks off at 8 a.m. Those not participating in the Turkey Trot should consider adjusting their travel plans to avoid delays caused by road closures and slippery conditions.
This annual event embodies the spirit of community involvement and the joy of giving back, making it a highlight of the Thanksgiving festivities in Arlington. As everyone gathers with friends and family to celebrate the holiday, the Turkey Trot stands out as a wonderful opportunity to contribute to local charities while enjoying a fun and active start to Thanksgiving Day.
