The Arizona Cardinals have made a move to strengthen their coaching staff by requesting an interview with Anthony Weaver, the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, for their vacant head coaching position, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Weaver, 45, has established a reputation in the league and will also be interviewing with the Atlanta Falcons, highlighting his rising profile in coaching circles. His tenure with the Dolphins began with notable success in 2024, overseeing a defense that ranked fourth in the league for yards allowed and tenth for points allowed. Unfortunately, the following season saw the defense struggle significantly, dropping to 24th in both metrics after several personnel changes and adjustments.

Before his role with the Dolphins, Weaver served as the defensive coordinator for the Houston Texans in 2020 and dedicated three seasons to the Baltimore Ravens, where he ascended to the position of assistant head coach during his final two years.

The Cardinals are seeking to revamp their coaching staff after the dismissal of Jonathan Gannon, who led the team for three seasons but finished with a disappointing record of 15-36, including a challenging 3-14 season in 2025.

With the hunt for a new head coach underway, Weaver’s experience and previous success could position him as a strong candidate to lead the Cardinals towards a promising future. The upcoming interviews will shed light on the direction that both the Cardinals and the Falcons wish to take as they look to rejuvenate their teams.
