Argyle Volleyball Stuns Semifinal, Advances to 5A Division II State Final Against Cedar Park

In a thrilling display of resilience and determination, the Argyle Lady Eagles triumphed over Frisco Liberty in Saturday’s state semifinal match at Prosper Rock Hill. After dropping the first set 25-23, Argyle rallied to secure victory in the next three sets with scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-12, earning a spot in the 5A Division II state final.

This remarkable comeback was reminiscent of last year’s similar situation, where Argyle lost the first set but ultimately fell short against Frisco Wakeland in a tightly contested match. Senior Hannah Baker emphasized the team’s newfound confidence this year, asserting that they learned from their past experiences and maintained a positive outlook after the initial setback. Baker was instrumental in the victory, contributing 14 kills and four blocks, and played a pivotal role in rallying the team during critical moments of the match.

The victory marks Argyle’s seventh appearance in a state semifinal, and the team has been on a winning streak, claiming 17 consecutive matches, bringing their overall record to 38-3. They will now face Cedar Park in the state final at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, a highly anticipated showdown set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

This match represents a significant milestone for Argyle, as it is their first trip to a state final since 2017, when they achieved four straight championship appearances in the 4A division. Coach Katelyn Johnson noted the team’s hard work and readiness to transition from 4A to 5A, highlighting their progression over the years.

The Lady Eagles demonstrated strong teamwork throughout the match, with standout performances from players like freshman Alexis Elsey, who led with 17 kills and 15 digs, and junior Betsy Zhang, who added a crucial 11 kills. Junior setter Karsyn Rogers contributed significantly with 25 assists and 10 digs, helping facilitate the team’s dynamic play.

As they gear up for the state final, Argyle’s focus remains on treating every match with equal importance, carrying their momentum and confidence forward. This approach serves to inspire hope and anticipation as they aim for another chapter in their legacy, potentially adding to their achievements in a state title.
