A sharp drop in temperatures greeted residents last night as wind chills plummeted into the teens after dark. This morning, the chill has intensified, with wind chills hovering in the single digits, both above and below zero, making it feel particularly brisk.
Fortunately, weather conditions are expected to improve later today, with temperatures rising to around 32 degrees as the wind calms down.
Looking ahead to Saturday, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are set to experience a mixed bag of weather. A quick-moving weather system will bring temperatures close to 40 degrees. For many, this means light rain during the day, while others may see a wet snow mix. As the day progresses and temperatures drop in the afternoon, the wet snow will likely dominate even in coastal regions by Saturday night. Central Massachusetts and parts of southern New Hampshire could see accumulations of 1-3 inches, while coastal areas might only receive a light dusting to nearly an inch.
On Sunday, temperatures won’t drop significantly, but an ocean storm is developing off the Jersey Shore. Increased cloud cover may bring light snow and minor accumulations, particularly in areas like Plymouth, Wareham, and Hyannis by late afternoon.
Fortunately for football fans, the forecast for the Patriots game looks favorable. Spectators can expect no snow, rain, or wind, with temperatures settling in the mid-30s.
Next week, however, the weather will take a turn as an arctic front sweeps through. While temperatures may still reach freezing on Monday, they are expected to fall sharply by Tuesday, with highs barely touching 20 degrees. This significant drop will be exacerbated by gusty winds, leading to wind chills well below zero. Light snow flurries may arrive on Wednesday as temperatures slightly recover to the mid-20s.
As the week progresses, attention will turn towards storm activity late next week. The specifics of the system are still uncertain, but current models suggest it won’t develop into a coastal storm or nor’easter, allowing for some predictability in the forecast.
Enjoy the weekend and cheer on the Patriots!
