Several school districts in Central Texas have announced cancellations, rescheduling, or postponements of UIL sports events and other activities due to an impending arctic blast expected this weekend. The winter weather is anticipated to impact activities on January 24-25, prompting local districts to implement precautionary measures.

The arrival of the arctic front has been delayed and is now expected during the day on Saturday, which alters the timing of approaching wintry conditions. Increased rain is expected to develop on Friday, transitioning to widespread heavy rain by Saturday.

Listed below are the updates from various Central Texas school districts in response to the forecasted weather:

Austin Independent School District (AISD) has decided to close all travel and school activities this weekend, including athletics, field trips, and school-based events. All facilities under AISD will be unavailable for use over the weekend.

Del Valle Independent School District (ISD) proactively announced the cancellation of all activities and athletics for Saturday, January 24.

Georgetown Independent School District (ISD) also canceled all events for Saturday and Sunday.

Hays Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has removed all UIL sports and fine arts activities for the same weekend. While some events might be rescheduled to different times, participants are encouraged to check with their coaches for the latest updates. However, activities related to the Future Farmers of America and the Hays County Stock Show may still proceed as planned, pending confirmation from sponsoring organizations.

Leander Independent School District (ISD) has followed suit, canceling all district activities for the weekend, which includes all events, practices, and games.

Similarly, Manor Independent School District (ISD) has announced a complete cancellation of school district activities over the weekend.

As weather conditions continue to develop, the situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided to keep the community informed. The health and safety of students and staff are the top priority, reflecting a proactive approach by these districts.
