Apple is gearing up to launch new MacBook Pro models this fall, equipped with an OLED touchscreen and an innovative Dynamic Island feature similar to that found on its iPhones. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this smaller version of Dynamic Island debuted with the iPhone 14 Pro series and will make its way onto the new MacBook Pros, which will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes.

While the external design of the new MacBook Pros will remain reminiscent of existing models, Apple is expected to enhance the user interface significantly. Gurman stated that the updated interface will be more dynamic, adapting to enhance the touch or point-and-click experience. For instance, users interacting with buttons or controls will see contextual menus pop up around their touchpoint, offering relevant options tailored for touch commands.

Historically, Apple has avoided integrating touchscreen technology into its Mac lineup. In 2010, Steve Jobs famously remarked that “touch surfaces don’t want to be vertical,” deeming touchscreen Macs “ergonomically terrible.” However, the landscape has shifted over the years, especially with the popularity of the iPad, which is now marketed as both a touchscreen tablet and a device compatible with Mac-like accessories.

Recent reports suggest that Apple is exploring the possibility of future touchscreen Macs. However, Gurman indicates that these devices will not be introduced during the upcoming March 4th event but are expected to launch closer to the end of 2026.

Additionally, it was revealed that a smaller version of the Dynamic Island will also be featured on upcoming iPhone models, such as the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18 Pro Max, hinting at Apple’s continued innovation and adaptation of its technologies across product lines. This ongoing evolution demonstrates Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience, integrating features across devices while paving the way for a potential shift towards touchscreen capabilities in its Mac lineup.
